How to Make Athlete Highlights from Full Game Film
By NextPlay · Updated
Making one athlete's highlight from a full game is a different viewing task from reviewing the whole team's performance. Start with a complete play-by-play cut, then choose the plays that belong in the athlete's video.
1. Bring the recording you can upload
Use a local video file, or the named Veo import where available in NextPlay. A generic video-page URL is not an uploadable file. If someone else controls the recording, ask them for a downloadable copy you have permission to use.
Check the sport and the recording before uploading. If the player is too small or out of view in the source, editing cannot recover details that were never captured.
2. Start with the complete cut
Choose Coach Film for a play-by-play starting point. Game Tape is also available for full-game review. Every detected, non-excluded play belongs in the complete cut; its length follows the game rather than a short-video runtime target.
The detected plays still need your review. Camera angle, visibility and the recording itself affect what can be recognized. Open the clip-by-clip view and compare it with the source when something looks incomplete.
3. Keep your athlete's plays
Review the Coach Film and remove the plays that are not your athlete's. Check the setup as well as the result so a pass, run or defensive action remains understandable.
NextPlay does not automatically pick one athlete out of team footage. If you want less review work next time, film shorter clips with your athlete kept in frame.
4. Choose the output for the audience
Share a Highlight for a quick look at the athlete, or a landscape Recruiting Highlight when that presentation fits the recipient. Keep the complete Game Tape for coaches who want to review the whole game.
Use a share link or download the finished MP4. Processing time depends on the source length and current workload; wait for the reel to finish and watch the result before sending it.
